The Story of SLARF:

Upon a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on a cold New York day in November of 2001, I had the idea that would soon be known as SLARF. As many New Yorkers know, once you have on that heavy winter coat to protect you from the out-door cold, it becomes a bit of a nuisance once you are in a building in which every room is a different temperature. That day I was wearing a short sleeve shirt, a coat, which I needed to tie around my waist once inside the museum, and a scarf draped loosely around my neck.

Throughout the tour of the museum I went from being overheated to having goose-bumps all over my arms and neck from the inconsistent air conditioning. It was on this cycle of discomfort that I wrapped the ends of my scarf comfortably around my wrists so that its warmth enveloped each arm. I was perfectly cozy and as soon as I was back in the vicinity of a sewing machine and attachable snaps, the SLARF was born.
